Canon Canada Receives Four Canadian Printing Awards

BRAMPTON, ON., November 15, 2018 Canon Canada Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, proudly accepted four 2018 PrintAction Canadian Printing Awards on Thursday. The annual awards program, now in its 13th year, celebrates excellence and innovation in four areas: Printing, Print Design, Technological Innovation and Environmental Innovation.

Canon Canada received gold awards for Most Progressive Printing Process, production inkjet, and Most Progressive Printing Process, wide format; and silver awards for Most Progressive Printing Process, software or IT, and Self Promotion, printing industry supplier.

“Canon continuously strives to develop and produce high-quality, industry-leading products and solutions that empower customers and drive business performance,” said Nobuhiko Kitajima, Executive Vice President and General Manager for the Imaging Systems Group and Professional Printing Solutions Group of Canon Canada. “These awards recognize Canon’s commitment to innovation. We’re excited about the future of print and the part Canon can play with its progressive products, processes and solutions.”

Canon Canada received the following awards at the 2018 PrintAction Canadian Printing Awards Gala in Toronto.

Most Progressive Printing Process, production inkjet

Gold Award – Océ VarioPrint i200

The Océ VarioPrint i200 sheet-fed inkjet press bridges the gap between the application flexibility and efficiency of sheet-fed presses and the economy and productivity of web-fed systems. The introduction of Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR) on the Océ VarioPrint i200—as well as on the previously launched Océ VarioPrint i300—opens doors for print service providers producing financial security applications. Documents printed with this magnetic ink require special readers to decode the magnetic signals. iQuarius Technologies™, a breakthrough in sheet-fed versatility and inkjet productivity, enable PSPs to print at high speeds on a diverse range of media, including coated, uncoated and inkjet treated paper. The presses feature built-in self-maintenance and diagnostic systems with automated corrective actions, as well as a “sense and support” predictive maintenance system. Print service providers will also enjoy seamless workflow integration, reduced set-up and finishing times, and near-instantaneous drying time, ensuring maximum end-to-end productivity.

Most Progressive Printing Process, wide format

Gold Award – Océ Arizona High Flow Vacuum

Available on both the six-colour Océ Arizona 6160 XTS and seven-colour Océ Arizona 6170 XTS models, the Océ Arizona High Flow Vacuum extends the printing capacity of these printers to applications traditionally served by screen printing or lithographic lamination. The system allows users to load and print on difficult media that otherwise would require taping or mechanical straining to handle efficiently. This includes highly porous corrugated cardboard, severely warped plywood, MDF, other fiberboard and wood-printing applications. The system combines the High Flow Vacuum, which produces up to 15 times the continuous airflow of existing systems, with a new table overlay with 250,000 air holes for maximum hold down. This prevents even the hardest of materials from moving during printing and maintains a high quality image output. The Océ Arizona 6100 High Flow Vacuum system also includes the standard productive pneumatic pin registration system for quickly and accurately loading boards.

Most Progressive Printing Process, software or IT

Silver Award – Océ TouchStone

Traditionally, producing 2.5D prints requires a substantial amount of file work and operator involvement. Océ TouchStone simplifies the process. Print providers can easily produce textured, dimensional printing on an Océ Arizona 1200 or 2200 Series printer within the software components. An in-house graphic designer creates the textured files within a familiar Adobe® CC design environment utilizing free Océ Extensions for Photoshop® and Illustrator®. The resulting PDF file is sent to the Océ TouchStone enabled print provider, where the file is RIP’ed through a special ONYX driver and a locked batch file that preserves the original height map. The final colour graphic gets sent to the Océ Arizona printer, where it’s printed at the push of a button.

Self Promotion, printing industry supplier

Silver Award – Wistful Wanderings & Co. Promotional Book

This self-promotion booklet for Wistful Wanderings & Co., a fictitious marketing company specializing in memorable consumer experiences and excursions, demonstrates the various strengths and capabilities of the imagePRESS C850 Series. Thick and uneven textured paper can be challenging to print on digitally. The imagePRESS C850’s unique technologies allow for improved print quality on various types of textured paper and full, vibrant toner coverage across the page, without losing image detail in highlight and shadow areas. With print quality comparable to offset press print quality, the imagePRESS C850 gives print providers the ability to produce high-quality pieces in small quantities without sacrificing cost or quality. The booklet was printed with a white paper in, finished product out method: the device was able to feed the different medias from multiple paper feeding sources, collate, fold, stitch and trim to full bleed all in-line. The booklet comes off the press complete and immediately presentable to the customer.

“We are honoured to have our innovations recognized with four wins at this year’s Canadian Printing Awards,” said Patrick D’Souza, Senior Vice-President and General Manager of the Professional Printing Solutions Division at Canon Canada. “Canon prides itself on its cutting-edge imaging solutions, and this validation from our industry peers will motivate us to push ourselves even further in the future.”
