Every year, the Enactus Canada National Exposition allows student leaders from across the country to highlight how their community outreach programs and business ventures are creating sustainable solutions.
Through rounds of presentation-based competition, teams from post-secondary institutions across the country pitch their solutions to judging panels of business leaders. The final round of competition took place on May 28. Wanda Randell, Vice-President of Sales at Canon Canada, served as one of the judges.
This year’s National Champion is the team from Wilfred Laurier University – Waterloo. Their venture, EarthSuds tablets, are plastic-free, single use-toiletry tablets. Per Enactus Canada’s press release, this past year, they employed eight individuals with development disabilities, saved almost 20,000 litres of water and generated over $100,000 in funding through their project. They will now represent Canada at the Enactus World Cup in Utrecht, Netherlands, in September.
Enactus Canada is a national charity and the country’s largest post-secondary experiential learning platform. There are 80 student-run volunteer groups at colleges and universities across Canada.
“The Enactus Canada National Exhibition promotes and rewards the same principles that we value ourselves at Canon Canada: a collaborative spirit and entrepreneurial action,” says Randell. “It was inspiring to hear ideas from this next generation of socially responsible leaders who are committed to using business as a force for good.”
