This March 18 marks the sixth official Global Recycling Day, a day dedicated to shedding light on the importance of recycling and promoting the vitality of recycling across the globe.

As one of Canada’s Greenest Employers, Canon Canada continues to encourage employees to embrace the importance recycling plays in preserving our precious primary resources and securing the future of our planet.

In 1990, Canon was the first company in the industry to launch, collect and develop a toner cartridge return program. As of the end of 2020, more than 435,000 tons have been collected around the world. The recycling program is one of the most prominent ways that Canon integrates recycling into its business product offerings. The goal is to achieve zero landfill waste by reusing parts, recycling materials and employing energy recovery.

Unlike Canon’s all-in-one cartridges, toner containers are made mainly of plastic material, making them suitable for local recycling and local energy recovery in many areas of the country. When local recycling is utilized, the environmental impact associated with the transportation of containers is reduced.

Thanks to this environmentally responsible way of recycling empty toner cartridges, Canon is contributing to the achievement of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
