On Nov. 2, Canon Canada welcomed 12 Grade 9 students to its Brampton Headquarters for Take Our Kids to Work Day. Launched by The Learning Partnership in 1994, Take Our Kids to Work Day is an annual program in which Grade 9 students spend the day in the workplace of a parent, relative, friend or volunteer host exploring career options in a practical way and seeing firsthand what being part of the working world is like. With The Learning Partnership winding down operations, this year’s day carried on in a transitioning partnership with The Students Commission of Canada.
The students spent the morning touring Canon Canada’s head office, including the state-of-the-art showroom, and learning what makes it a LEED® Gold certified building. Members of the human resources team led a session on what employers look for in job candidates and how to write a stand-out résumé. The students spent part of their afternoon doing a design thinking session with one of the marketing teams before job shadowing their parents until the end of the workday.
