Canon Canada has been a proud supporter of Ryerson University’s Graphic Communications Management (GCM) program for many years. The company presents two Canon awards for academic achievement at the program’s annual GCM Awards night in November. It’s also been a continuing sponsor of RyeTAGA, the Ryerson Technical Association of the Graphic Arts. Canon Canada is excited to be a gold sponsor for the 2021-22 academic year.
TAGA – the Technical Association of the Graphic Arts – is an organization of industry professionals and academics dedicated to scientific research and technological innovation in the field of graphic communications. RyeTAGA is an official student chapter and consists of more than 100 students from Ryerson’s GCM program.
TAGA hosts a spring conference for the student chapters and working professionals to learn about the latest technology and research in the graphic arts industry. The chapters also compete for the Helmut Kipphan Cup, awarded to the best student journal.
RyeTAGA plans, designs and produces a technical journal that showcases the top student research from the GCM program. Students are encouraged to work with industry partners to print and create their journal. Canon Canada’s sponsorship will help them offset the cost of paper for the production of their journal and the cost of the registration fees to attend the annual TAGA conference in March.
“Completing a degree in itself is a major achievement, but being able to take everything that we’ve learned in class and apply it to the real world is what really elevates our learning experience,” says Nancy Ly, president of RyeTAGA. “RyeTAGA is a perfect combination of everything that we have learned throughout GCM from planning to production. The team truly appreciates the support that Canon provided in the past and continues to provide. Without the support of Canon, it would not be possible for us to participate in the student competition for the Helmut Kipphan Cup.”
“Canon Canada is always excited to work with an emerging wave of print professionals,” says Nobuhiko Kitajima, President and CEO of Canon Canada. “The GCM program provides them with a solid foundation of technical skills. It’s important for us to support students as they apply those skills to real-life scenarios that help prepare them to be working industry professionals. Canon is proud to play a part in the production process of RyeTAGA’s competitive journal. We wish the students the best of luck at the TAGA Annual Technical Conference, and we look forward to working with them in the industry for years to come.”
