Installing Color Network ScanGear
Follow the procedure below to install the Color Network ScanGear.
Important
When starting the computer, you must log on as an Administrator.
If the [User Account Control] dialog box appears, perform the following operations.
For Administrator users, click [Allow] or [Continue].
For Standard users, enter the required Administrator password → click [OK].
Note
For procedures other than the install and uninstall procedures, refer to the manuals supplied with the corresponding product or the online help, e-manual, User's Guide, etc(see "Where to Find Help").
For details about supported systems, see "System Environment Requirements."
If you are using an MF series printer, refer to the manual that is provided together with the printer for details on the installation procedure.

Start Windows.

Insert the XXX User Software CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive →click [Installation].
For Windows 7/Server 2008/Vista:
If the [AutoPlay] dialog box appears, click [Run MInst.exe].
If Windows Explorer opens, double-click the [MInst.exe] icon.
If nothing happens, on the [] (Start) menu, click [Computer] → double-click the CD-ROM drive icon.
For Windows Server 2003/XP/2000:
If nothing happens, double-click the [My Computer] icon → the CD-ROM drive icon → the [MInst.exe] icon to start the installation process.
If you cannot find the [MInst.exe] icon on your CD-ROM:
1.Double-click the following folders:
[Color_Network_ScanGear] → [driver]
2.Double-click the [setup.exe] icon to start the installation process → proceed to step 5.
Note
The procedure varies according to the operating system edition and environment you are using.
Depending on the software or the operating system you are using, a screen for selecting the language to be used for the installer may be displayed before installing.

Select Color Network ScanGear from the list → click [Install].
4.
Select the language you want to use in the [Choose Setup Language] dialog box, and click [OK].

In the Welcome screen, click [Next].
6.
Read the license agreement carefully. If you agree to the terms, check [I accept the terms in the license agreement] → click [Next].
7.
In the Destination Folder screen, specify the location where the network scanner driver is to be installed → click [Next].
8.
Click [install].
Installation starts, and the progress of installation is displayed.
When the necessary files have been copied, a dialog box appears to indicate that installation is complete.
If an error message is displayed indicating that registration of ScanGear Tool or a UDP port as an exception in Windows Firewall has failed, manually register ScanGear Tool and/or the UDP port as an exception in Windows Firewall after installation has finished, following the procedures below.
Registering ScanGear Tool in [Exceptions] in Windows Firewall
- For Windows 7:
1.Click [] (Start) → [Control Panel] → [System and Security] → [Windows Firewall] → [Advanced Settings].
2. Select [Inbound Rules] in the [Windows Firewall with Advanced Security] sheet → click [New Rules].
3. In [New Inbound Rule Wizard], select [Program] → click [Next].
4. Select [This program path] → click [Browse] → select the file below → click [Next].

5. Select [Allow the connection] → click [Next].
6. Select only [Private] → click [Next].
7. Enter a name in [Name] → click [Finish] to close [New Inbound Rule Wizard].
- For Windows Server 2008/Vista:
1.Click [] (Start) → [Control Panel] → [Security] → [Windows Firewall] → [Allow a program through Windows Firewall].
2. In the [Exceptions] sheet, click [Add program] to add ScanGear Tool to the [Program or port] list → select the check box next to ScanGear Tool.
3. Click [OK] to close [Windows Firewall Settigns] dialog box.
- For Windows Server 2003/XP:
1.Click [start] → [Control Panel] → [Security Center] → [Windows Firewall] under [Manage security settings for].
2.In the [Exceptions] sheet, click [Add Program] to add ScanGear Tool to the [Programs and Services] list → select the check box next to ScanGear Tool.
3. Click [OK] to close [Windows Firewall] dialog box.
NOTE
The procedure varies according to the operating system edition and and environment you are using. Add the program to [Exceptions] in Firewall.
Registering a UDP port to [Exceptions] in Windows Firewall
- For Windows 7:
1. Click [] (Start) → [Control Panel] → [System and Security] → [Windows Firewall] → [Advanced Settings].
2. Select [Inbound Rules] in the [Windows Firewall with Advanced Security] sheet → click [New Rules].
3. In [New Inbound Rule Wizard], select [Port] → click [Next].
4. Select [UDP] → enter 56338 in [Specific local port] → click [Next].
5. Select [Allow the connection] → click [Next].
6. Select only [Private] → click [Next].
7. Enter a name in [Name] → click [Finish] to close [New Inbound Rule Wizard].
- For Windows Server 2008/Vista:
1. Click [] (Start) → [Control Panel] → [Security] → [Windows Firewall] → [Allow a program through Windows Firewall].
2.In the [Exceptions] sheet of the [Windows Firewall] dialog box, click [Add port].
3.In the [Add a Port] dialog box, enter a name for [Name] → enter 56338 for [Port number] → select the check mark next to [UDP] → click [OK].
4.Click [OK] and close the [Windows Firewall Settings] dialog box.
- For Windows Server 2003/XP:
1. Click [start] → [Control Panel] → [Security Center] → [Windows Firewall] under [Manage security settings for].
2.In the [Exceptions] sheet of the [Windows Firewall] dialog box, click [Add Port].
3.In the [Add a Port] dialog box, enter a name for [Name] → enter 56338 for [Port number] → select the check mark next to [UDP] → click [OK].
4.Click [OK] and close the [Windows Firewall] dialog box.
NOTE
The procedure varies according to the operating system edition and and environment you are using.

Click [Finish] to finish the installation.
Note
When installation is complete, before starting the network scanner driver you must use the ScanGear Tool in order to select the network scanner to be used for scanning. For instructions on how to select the network scanner, see "Selecting a Scanner."
The network scanner driver does not operate independently. To scan, access this driver from a TWAIN-compliant application (such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint 2000 or later).
