On April 19, 2017, Canon Canada was pleased to host its inaugural Canon Environmental Education Day in support of its Clean Earth Campaign. Recognized as one of North America's premier corporate environmental management programs, The Clean Earth Campaign guides all of Canon Canada's workplace conservation and recycling activities.
One hundred grade six and seven students from two local schools spent the day at Canon Canada headquarters in Brampton, Ontario, learning about their local environment. Students participated in three workshops throughout the day that furthered their knowledge of organic decomposition; local fauna such as a fox, eagle and a midland painted turtle; invasive flora surrounding Canon's storm water pond; and what it means to operate in a green (soon to be LEED-certified) building.
Canon Canada partnered with three organizations that helped to run the workshops: Credit Valley Conservation, Earth Rangers and the Ontario Clean Water Authority.
Each workshop provided students with hands-on activities that encouraged team collaboration and critical thinking skills. The students were encouraged to document their day using Canon cameras and share on their social media channels using the hashtag #CanonEnviroEd.
